DAY 2: THE VINE & THE BRANCHES
WE ARE AN ABIDING PEOPLE
Today’s bible reading will be the whole of John 15. Let us first start by reading verses 1-8. Sit with the truth of these verses for a minute. In some translations it says abide in me, and others remain in me. The beginning of verse 4 NIV says: 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you.
Let’s use this to complete a breath prayer. As you breathe out say (in your head) “I remain in you”. As you breathe in say: “you remain in me,” try this 5 times.
BIBLE READING
John 15:26 says “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me”. Ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you about God as you read the rest of John 15. Now read the rest of the chapter.
What did this passage say about God?
WE ARE A SURRENDERED PEOPLE
How does the answer to the question above help you surrender to God today?
Verses 9-10 say… 9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.” A major part of surrendering looks like keeping God’s commands.
What are some of the commands of God in this chapter?
Is there something specific he wants you to pray through or focus on today?
I will…..
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you follow Jesus in this way today.
WE ARE A SENT PEOPLE
What do you learn about making disciples from this passage? Would it be helpful to pray through anything you have learnt?
The beginning of verse 27 says…27 “And you also must testify.” A witness in court will often share evidence. They are called to “testify.” What evidence do you have that God is good, either from this passage or your own life? You may want to use the 15 second testimony tool on Youtube to help you practise sharing your evidence/ help you testify. Pray for an opportunity to share this with someone today.
