DAY 1: Jesus comforts his disciples

WE ARE AN ABIDING PEOPLE

As we begin Mosaic’s Abide week, a corporate week of increased prayer and time with God in the lead up to Easter, let us begin by…sitting quietly and imagining ourselves as the branch connected to the vine (Jesus). Jesus describes himself as the vine and us the branches. In a real vine, water and nutrients move through the vine into the branch as there is no other way for the branch to get these things. We cannot survive or bear fruit without a connection to Jesus, we would just shrivel up! Let us imagine being a branch connected to the Vine (Jesus) for a few minutes now.

BIBLE READING

John 14 - Look in your bible’s contents page to find John. We will read it in a minute. In this passage we will read that…  (v26) “the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

Before you start to read, ask the Holy Spirit what he wants to teach you about God as you read through.

Read through slowly, you might want to list what God has shown you about himself below. As you do, pause and ask that you will receive a greater revelation of these truths. E.g. God will give us peace.

God is…

God can…

God will…

WE ARE A SURRENDERED PEOPLE

We are in a season of focusing on being “surrendered and sent” as a church. To Peter (one of Jesus’ disciples), Jesus said, “follow me and I will make you a fisher of people”.

In today’s passage it says in verse 15 “If you love me, keep my commands. And in verse 23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.

What are the specific ways this passage asks you to follow Jesus? What are the commands and teachings he is sharing with us in this passage?

Is there something he wants you to pray through or focus on today?

I will…..

Ask the Holy Spirit to help you follow Jesus in this way today.

WE ARE A SENT PEOPLE

What do you learn about making disciples from this passage?

Is there anyone you know that would find comfort, hope or direction from what you have learnt in this passage today? It might be his peace ……Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal a person to share with and what might be helpful to share. You could send them a text, voice note or speak to them in person today.
