DAy 5: jesus is arrested
WE ARE AN ABIDING PEOPLE
“I find no basis for a charge against him” was what Pilate said about Jesus when he was brought to him on trial. Put simply he told the crowd that Jesus had done nothing wrong. As we begin our time today, let us look to Jesus, who did nothing wrong, but was still arrested, tried and sentenced. Draw close to him and thank him.
BIBLE READING
In today's chapter, John 18, we will read from vs 37: “In fact, the reason I (Jesus) was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” Expect, as you read the chapter, for Jesus to speak truth to you.

WE ARE A SURRENDERED PEOPLE
Peter’s human response in verse 10 to his teacher, Messiah and friend being arrested, was to try and stop it. He lashed out and chopped off an ear! Maybe he thought it was the best thing to do. He was trying to defend his friend. Often we use our own understanding of situations and we try to defend ourselves or others, but we don’t need to be our own defence. Our human reaction might not be the best for the situation we are in. Jesus responded to Peter’s behaviour by commanding… “Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?” Jesus is our model at surrendering to the Father’s will. Perhaps today we might need to surrender our own methods of self protection, ways of defending ourselves and trust that God has a better plan, surrendering to him, even if it currently looks like that would be a bad idea.
Peter was also fearful of what people thought of him, and what they might do to him. He reacted by denying knowing Jesus. We may need to surrender our fear of man or fear of what might happen.
What today does this passage prompt you to consider surrendering? Focus on the model of Jesus’ surrender and ask for His help to follow Him.
WE ARE A SENT PEOPLE
What does God teach you about making disciples from this passage?
Ask God to give you someone to share something you have learnt about Jesus in this passage. Why not send them a voice note, text or speak to them in person about this. E.g. I was just reading a section of the Easter story today and I keep thinking about the bit when… because it made me….. Have you ever read it?
